Valerie Bertinelli and Tom Vitale are officially divorced.
The couple, who had been married for 10 years, announced they were separated last year. Now their divorce papers have been signed, sealed, and delivered.
Valerie, 62, filed the papers in Los Angeles Superior Court, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the couple parting ways.
Valerie and Tom did not have any kids together, though Valerie is mom to son Wolfie, whose father is the late Eddie Van Halen. He and Valerie were married from 1981 until 2007. When Eddie died of cancer in 2020, it hit Valerie hard.
Tom had four kids from a previous marriage.
Valerie and Tom seemed to be madly in love with they first met back in 2004. They were together for six years before getting engaged in March of 2010. They were married in January the following year.
Valerie has definitely been expressing her emotions on social media lately. Last year, she posted a video calling out a troll for commenting on her weight. And this week, she shared of video addressing a commenter who said she looked "sad."
“I’m just having a very bad day,” Valerie says. “But you know what? Sometimes we have bad days and then we get over them. And then there’s a good day. So, I’m looking forward to the good day.”
Valerie also shared what could be a telling story on Instagram. She posted a poem titled I Don't Miss You.
"You were not the person I thought you were," it reads, in part. "I did not love you. I loved the person you pretended to be."
While Tom and Valerie seemed to have had a good run, she did speak out about challenges at times, like that of having a blended family. In 2019, she told AARP Magazine that it was really hard work — a statement that now feels telling in retrospect.
“It’s not easy,” she said. “I’m looking forward to being an empty nester.”
