Dakota Fanning is opening up about mourning the loss of her dog.
In a conversation about pets on The Kelly Clarkson Show, the 28-year-old actress shared that her first and only dog, Lewellen, recently passed away. Dakota has been taking the time to deal with the loss, which has been tremendously difficult.
Like Dakota, Kelly and actress Michelle Pfeiffer, who was also part of the conversation, know the pain of losing a pet. The three ladies had a candid discussion about it, where Dakota revealed how she now honors the memory of her late dog.
Dakota Fanning and Michelle Pfeiffer are both seasoned actresses. The two worked together in 2001's I Am Sam and have now come together in The First Lady, which they were on The Kelly Clarkson Show to discuss. During the appearance, the subject of pets came up.
Michelle shared that after having had dogs for many years and having no remaining living ones, she was considering a puppy. She also praised her cat, Fella.
"She passed away, my first and only dog Lewellen, and this is her hair in my necklace," Dakota shared when she was asked.
"So I have her with me."
"Aww, that's creepy and beautiful. I love that," Kelly replied.
"It's like a shrine to Lewellen," Dakota joked back.
Kelly shared how hard it is to lose a pet.
"People don't get it," she lamented.
"I have kids too, and I'm telling you, [the pets] are like a part of my family. When one of my dogs died, I thought I was going to die myself."
"You're a walking shrine," Kelly said to Dakota.
"I love it. It's love."
