Another royal property has been breached by a commoner who was angling to see the Queen.
Just days before celebrations of Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee kicked off, 28-year-old Connor Attridge was arrested at Buckingham Palace for trespassing. Attridge walked through the vehicle gate of the Royal Mews on Sunday May 29. From there, he was able to walk 3 to 5 meters (about 10 to 16 feet) into the grounds.
Attridge was stopped by a member of the household staff. It's pretty alarming considering they were in the process of beefing up security ahead of the Trooping the Colour celebrations on June 2, 2022.
Attridge told the staffer who stopped him, "I want to come in. I want to see the Queen."
He was escorted off the premises and arrested. Attridge was charged with trespassing on a protected site on May 29.
Prosecutors question what Attridge's intentions were, considering how high profile this week was and how it should have been clear the area was off-limits. His defense argues that he's mentally ill and meant no harm, having only walked in a few meters.
Attridge was granted bail with conditions. He has to observe a curfew and be monitored by an electronic tag. He is also to stay out of London, except to attend court.
