Can you imagine having the privilege of being able to hire a professional potty trainer for your little one? Yeah, that’s something that actually exists for a small portion of society.
Real Stories takes us into the world of a certain type of child rearing and parenting with its documentary Too Posh to Parent?
The documentary begins with the mother of three, Nina Naustdal, who lives in a $7 million townhouse in a posh neighborhood of London, England.
Real Stories notes that Nina spends approximately 200,000 pounds per year on “parental outsourcing,” which ranges in everything from tutors and nannies to chefs, butlers, and drivers.
“I don’t think that it’s a big taboo … using staff today,” Nina explains. “If there’s something that you want done, you can get someone else to do it.”
Even Nina’s children are aware of the privileged life they lead, as her young daughter outlines a lengthy list of chores of what exactly their personal assistant, Faye, does for the family on a regular basis.
This look into posh parents also reveals the interesting world of elite nanny agencies that work to provide the top nannies to this particular clientele. Some look for nannies with PhDs or specific special skills, and a good chunk of posh mothers also insist on finding caregivers with a certain perceived physical appearance.
“The nanny and the maid [have] to be so ugly that my love doesn’t even have to get distracted once,” one posh mother says with a laugh.
One prospective nanny being interviewed for an agency job is told that she must not highlight her physical appearance in any way and shouldn’t even wear leggings to work because they’re “too sexy” and distracting.
