As Grammy-award-winning singer Céline Dion is very much in the public eye, the entire world caught a glimpse of the sheer heartbreak and devastation that she experienced after she lost her husband, René Angélil, to cancer.
Life Stories by Goalcast gives us a look at the aftermath of the death of Céline’s husband — and how it was an act of kindness from none other than actor Ryan Reynolds that helped pull her through.
Shown in the clips taken from various news sources, Céline remembers the day that René told her his cancer had come back, because it was their wedding anniversary. And even though Céline tried to fight him on this, René was insistent that his wife continue working and stick to her touring schedule.
Céline recalls the night she came home from a show and didn’t get a chance to see him until the next morning, but it was simply too late.
“You’re never ready for something like this to happen,” Céline explains of trying to come to terms with her husband’s death. “Even though you expect it … you’re not prepared.”
Not long after the death of René, Céline also lost her brother to cancer. There was a lot of change, grief, and loss in Céline’s life all at once, and some people started to worry about her health and perceived weight loss.
It was during this extremely trying time that she received a letter from Ryan Reynolds. Unbeknownst to her, Ryan was also grieving the death of someone very dear to him. His father had recently died after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
