Most people would argue that the world would be a better place if people came from a place of openness and honesty. And why shouldn’t that include parents being real with themselves and the world when their newborn isn’t quite as cute as they had hoped?
Today caught up with mother of three Lucy Baehr, who talks about the completely relatable situation of meeting her miracle baby, Reese, after several miscarriages, and what it was like discovering that she did not look anything like her.
“I’m pretty sure I looked at my husband and was like, ‘She’s healthy,’” Lucy explains with a sheepish grin. “She just had a really big nose.”
Lucy became TikTok famous when she shared her "ugly baby" video on social media and was met with millions of views.
“This trend started where people were saying, ‘oh, we thought our newborn was going to be so cute,’ and then they came and they were not,” Lucy says to explain why her “ugly baby” videos became so popular. “And I was like, I win. I win this.”
Lucy even recalls when Reese’s big sister, Harper, held her baby sister for the first time and looked over at her mom and mentioned that baby Reese just looked kind of “weird.” Lucy found it hard to argue with because she was thinking the exact same thing.
There have been comparisons online to Dobby from Harry Potter as well as Mr. Bean, and some parents have even taken to shaming Lucy for sharing these types of videos in the first place.
