A 22-year-old Scottish man has been arrested after heckling Prince Andrew during the funeral procession for Queen Elizabeth. The man yelled out, "Andrew, you’re a sick old man!" as the royal walked by behind his mother's coffin.
Scottish police confirmed his arrest, stating simply, "A 22-year-old man was arrested in connection with a breach of the peace on the Royal Mile around 2.50pm on Monday, 12 September 2022."
The charge can be punished by up to 12 months in prison and a fine of £5,000.
Plenty of people find the arrest unjust. As author James Felton wrote on Twitter, "A man who claims he had a week-long breakup party with a convicted sex-trafficking paedophile, then paid £12 million to settle a sexual assault lawsuit rather than go to court, is being protected by the police from mean heckles. Cool country."
Others have speculated that perhaps King Charles should not have allowed Prince Andrew to attend events in the first place.
A former member of the royal household also had plenty to say on the topic.
The source told the Daily Beast: "The way that kid reacted should remind the royals that the public would be quite happy to never see Prince Andrew again. He is an unpleasant, arrogant man with no support in the institution. Including him in the events of this week is a mistake. This is not a family funeral. It is a state affair. She may be his mother — but she’s everyone’s queen."
