ABC’s popular reality competition show Dancing With the Stars moved over to Disney+. Season 31 premiered on September 19, 2022. Among the new cast members competing for the coveted Mirror Ball trophy is actress Selma Blair.
Selma Blair and partner Sasha Farber moved the judges and viewers with their debut dance, a Viennese waltz to David Cook’s Time of My Life. They received 7s across the board for a total of 28 out of 40 points. Selma’s biggest fan was her 11-year-old son, Arthur, beaming from the audience.
Arthur expressed his pride to Access Hollywood. He told them: "I'm really proud of her. It's just wonderful that she does this stuff and moves around."
Arthur cannot say enough good things about his brave mother. He goes on, "It was amazing. Even the judges were moved by it."
Selma’s dance is especially moving to many because of her 2018 multiple sclerosis diagnosis. With multiple sclerosis, the body’s immune system attacks the nerves. This causes communication issues between the brain and the rest of the body, resulting in mobility issues.
Selma has been very open about her diagnosis and the battle she is facing because of it. She remains a positive force in spite of all her challenges. She told The Guardian about her diagnosis: “You know, this wasn’t a death sentence for me. We all have a death sentence somewhere written in the stars. And hopefully, we will all learn to live our lives before that death sentence starts.”
Competing on DWTS seems to be another way Selma can live her life to the fullest. Selma told her dancing partner, Sasha, "I want to perform in a way that uses my body. Doing this can only help me in the long run."
Selma has naturally had to make adjustments in her life but refuses to be held back by MS. She was nervous about competing because of her balance issues but chose to work through her doubts. "I've underestimated me in the past so don't underestimate me."
Selma shares son Arthur with her ex Jason Bleick, who works in fashion. The couple first started dating in 2010. Their son Arthur was born in 2011. They broke up in 2012 but remain close friends and have a wonderful co-parenting relationship.
Selma shared her appreciation for Jason in a Father’s Day post on Instagram. She said, “We love our son so big and our son knows. Truth. So we are doing just fine. This odd family. Thank you @jasonbleick … See you soon. With love. Your cotton cloudy partner in magic.”
Selma is equally enamored with her son. For his first day of school, she posted, "I almost didn't get a picture with the fifth grader! I am proud of you Arthur. Proud you even got out of the car ✨ ."
Seems like this sweet family is a mutual admiration society of sorts, supporting each other through the ups and downs of life, including dancing competitions.
