Tom Brady just made some really cringey comments that aren't sitting right with a lot of people.
The athlete seemed to compare his football career to military deployment.
On the October 17 episode of his Sirius XM podcast, he said, “I almost look at like a football season like you’re going away on deployment in the military, and it’s like, man, here I go again,” he said.
He also acknowledged that work-life balance has been tough for him because "competitiveness takes over."
The comments come as Tom has been getting a lot of heat for seeming to fail to give his family as much time as his estranged wife had hoped. He continued, “As much as you want to have this playful balance with the work balance, you’re going to end up doing exactly what you’ve always done, which is why you are who you are."
Tom's comments didn't exactly sit right with a lot of actual military service members. One Twitter user wrote, "Out of my 8(ish) deployments, I never made $15,000,000, went home every night, or spent time with my family."
They continued, "Not sure where @TomBrady thinks his playing in the NFL rates a comparison to military service."
"Tampa… a long long way from Afghanistan," another user wrote.
While Gisele Bündchen has ditched her wedding ring and seems to be ready to leave the marriage behind her, Tom appears to be struggling. On Sunday he was seen raging at his team on the sidelines as they suffered a big loss. Sources have also said they feel he didn't give Gisele what she deserved.
Other insiders have claimed that the arguments between the spouses over football had been ongoing.
All in all, the media circus surrounding the couple's divorce has got to be tough to be in the middle of. Podcast host Jim Gray asked the football star how he managed to “ignore the microscope" his life seems to be under.
“Does it not make a difference to you what’s going on online and social media?” Jim asked Tom.
“Well, I think the point is everyone should just be authentic to who they are," Tom said. "You know, some people approach it in different ways, and it just has to work for them as part of your personality.”
Tom continued, "My style is to just ignore as much as possible and realize that most of the people in the conversation don’t have a full idea of what’s really going on."
