Iowa Mom Takes 5-Year-Old Son To Hooters To Celebrate His Birthday: ‘Protect The Children’

If you ask a 5-year-old what they'd like to do for their birthday, you're likely going to hear that they want a new toy or to go get some ice cream. Some parents might get a little fancier for the celebration and plan a party at the park or take the family out somewhere to eat. One option you might not think of doing? Going to Hooters.

Hooters is, of course, an American restaurant and bar known for its waitresses in low-cut shirts and bright orange short shorts. Plenty of birthdays are celebrated there, though the crowd tends to be on the older side.

One mom in Iowa, however, posted a video online of her family celebrating her 5-year-old son's birthday at the famed sports bar, and commenters had a lot to say.

The mom captioned her video, posted on TikTok, “Shouldn’t have told them it was your birthday buddy,” accompanied with the hashtag "#embarrassed" and a laughing emoji.

In the video, the young boy is standing on a chair in the restaurant, surrounded by smiling waitresses. They give him paper cups and instruct him on how to use them to make a beak and flap his wings while the women sing a birthday cheer to him.

While the video is innocent enough and the waitresses clearly went all out to make sure the boy had a fun moment, some commenters criticized the choice of venue.

“Who brings a child to Hooters? I’m not American, and I really don’t understand the whole Hooters thing,” someone commented.

Another pointed out that the restaurant isn't exactly known for its chicken wings, adding, "So much for protect the children.”

While the video went viral, many of the comments do seem to be positive.

One TikTok user said, "This is great. That kid had an amazing birthday."

Another said the child is “living the dream and nightmare of every boy,” as many noted his nervousness. Some joked that the 5-year-old was “no longer a boy” after the interaction.
