Casey Anthony is speaking out about her daughter Caylee's 2008 death.
The 36-year-old, who was famously charged with murdering her 2-year-old, then acquitted, is alleging that her father is really the one responsible.
She makes the claims in a new three-part docuseries, Casey Anthony: Where The Truth Lies, which is set to start streaming November 29 on Peacock.
The documentary is the first on-camera interview for Anthony.
Even though it took place in 2008, Caylee's tragic death remains a mystery. The child's body was found in a wooded area near the family home, six months after she went missing. Anthony's legal team argued that the child drowned. But the greater public still saw Casey Anthony as a murderer.
Anthony didn't get off completely. She was convicted of four counts of providing false information to law enforcement. She served prison time but was released early for good behavior. Now, after all these years, Casey Anthony is telling her story. It's uncertain whether people will believe her claims, but in the new interview, the accused murderer drops a number of major bombshells.
In the docuseries, Anthony paints her father, George Anthony, as a terrible abuser. She says he used to smother her with a pillow as a child. She doubles down on her previous claims that both her brother, Lee, and her father sexually assaulted her. Both men have denied the claims and have not ever been charged. But now Casey Anthony says her father may have been abusing her daughter, Caylee, too, and committed murder to cover it up.
"I wasn't feeling that great, and I wanted to lay down," she says about the last time her daughter was seen alive. "I had her lay in bed with me," she continues. "I was awoken by [my father] shaking me and asking me where Caylee was."
She says his panic confused her. "She would never even leave my room without telling me. I immediately started looking around the house. I go outside and I'm looking to see where she could be."
At that point, she says her father was holding Caylee. "She was soaking wet. He handed her to me. Said it was my fault. That I caused it," she says. "But he didn't rush to call 911 and he wasn't trying to resuscitate her. I collapsed with her in my arms. She was heavy, and she was cold."
She continues, "He takes her from me and he immediately softens his tone and says 'It's going to be ok.' I wanted to believe him. He took her from me and he went away." After that, Anthony says she stayed with her boyfriend at the time, Tony Lazzaro, but didn't tell him or anyone what had happened to Caylee.
Anthony alleges that after that, she didn't know where her daughter was, but she believed she was still alive. "During the 31 days, I genuinely believed that Caylee was still alive," she says. "My father kept telling me she was ok. I had to keep following his instructions. He told me what to do. I tried to act as normal as I could."
