Joseph "Jo Mersa" Marley, the son of musician Stephen Marley and grandson of reggae legend Bob Marley, has died. He was 31.
The young reggae star was found unresponsive in his car in the US. The cause of death has not been revealed.
His representative confirmed his death to Rolling Stone on Tuesday.
Jo Mersa was born in Jamaica and moved to Miami as a child. He studied studio engineering before pursuing his musical ambitions, which, of course, ran in his veins.
In 2014, he released an EP, titled Comfortable, before releasing his second, Eternal, in 2021.
His tragic and untimely death is being felt all over the world, as well as in his home country. Mark J. Golding, a Jamaican politician, posted about the loss on Twitter. "I've just learned of the tragic loss of Joseph 'Jo Mersa' Marley. A talented young reggae artiste, son of Stephen Marley & grandson of Bob Marley at only 31 yrs old," he wrote. "The loss of a child is a devastating blow no parent should face, my condolences to Stephen & the entire family."
Mersa is survived by his wife and daughter.
