In November 2022, reality television stars Julie and Todd Chrisley were convicted of conspiring to defraud banks. The couple had taken out over $30 million in fraudulent loans. Todd received a sentence of 12 years in prison and 16 months probation, while Julie received seven years with 16 months probation. Both maintain their innocence and are in the process of appealing.
While the appeals process plays out, both reported to prison on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, to begin serving their time. Julie was originally supposed to serve in Florida but was reassigned to a Kentucky prison. At this time, it is unknown why this change occurred.
Julie was going to serve her sentence at the federal prison camp in Marianna, Florida. This is about two and a half hours away from Pensacola, where her husband Todd is serving his sentence. Instead, she reported to the Federal Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. Its website describes the facilities as an “administrative security federal medical center with an adjacent minimum security satellite camp."
Todd and Julie are not the only ones who were convicted in this fraud case. Their former accountant Peter Tarantino was also convicted. He was sentenced to 36 months in prison beginning on May 1, 2023, after he has hip surgery.
Before sentencing, Julie and Todd asked for leniency as they are the primary caretakers of their son Grayson, age 16, and granddaughter Chloe, age 10. Todd asked that Julie’s sentence be less than his.
Julie described talking about her prison time with Chloe. “To hear your 10-year-old say she doesn't want to live if their mom goes away, no child should feel that way," she said.
