Brooke Shields is at the center of a new documentary about her life. Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields gives fans of Brooke an insight into her life that has never before been offered.
While Brooke opens up about a number of relationships and people in the documentary, she spends quite a bit of time talking about her friendship with Michael Jackson.
Brooke first continues her long-time claim that the two were always just friends and nothing more, despite reports to the contrary and despite Michael's own statements that directly contradict that claim.
Brooke explains that she and Michael were "childlike," and they understood one another as child stars who had been forced to carry a lot of responsibility. As she said at Michael's funeral, "Both of us needed to be adults very early, but when we were together, we were two little kids having fun."
Brooke also spoke about Michael's hope that the two could adopt a child together. She said, "I think he wanted to take his resources and make a difference to other people in their lives, and he knew that I wanted to do that in the world, too, so he would reach out to someone like me and say, 'How can we make a difference, it's easier to adopt a child if you're two people.' He never said, formally, 'Will you marry me,' it was never that for me, he never was that definitive, but I think he was a guy who kept searching for happiness."
Things took a turn for the friends after Michael told Oprah Winfrey that he and Brooke were in a relationship. Brooke was actually in a relationship with someone else, and she was upset that her friend would say something untrue.
While speaking to Rabbi Shmuley Boteach in 2001, Michael alluded to a stronger relationship with Brooke yet again. He said, "I think she loved me as much as I loved her, you know? We dated a lot. We went out a lot. Her pictures were all over my wall, my mirror, everything."
