The whole story of John Wayne Gacy is terrifying. The crimes that he committed are almost too gruesome to sound real. He put on a good front when it came to facing his neighbors and close friends, but nobody had any idea what was truly happening behind his closed doors.
A&E shared on its YouTube channel an episode from the show Monster in My Family. In this episode, John Wayne Gacy’s sister, Karen Kuzma, speaks out to reveal details pertaining to one of the most well-known serial killers in the world.
Melissa Moore, the host of the show, starts off the episode with the statement, “Serial killers devastate everyone around them. I know, I’m Melissa Moore, and my father murdered eight women.” Moore’s goal is to get family members of killers to come out of the shadows and help them through their journey through life and reach out to the victims' families to express their apologies as best as they can.
If you don’t know much about John Wayne Gacy, he was charged with numerous murders. All of his victims were all young men with an age range from 14 to 21. News vans and reporters stayed outside of Gacy’s house for days just so they wouldn’t miss the police pulling out all of Gacy’s victims. Every day police would find more and more bodies that Gacy hid in his house. By the end of it, they counted 26 bodies that were recovered from Gacy’s crawl space.
During the episode, Karen Kuzma is going to meet one of Gacy’s victims' family members. Kuzma hopes that meeting Patti, the sister of the victim, will bring her closure. Kuzma says, “I’m so sorry for their loss, I’m so sorry that he did what he did. To be able to put your sympathy out there and let them know that you care about them and that you care about their loss is very important.”
Kuzma informs viewers that at the time of the trial, their lawyer wouldn’t let them say anything to these families. They were never able to apologize as they wanted to. After three decades, Karen is finally able to be open with these families and find the comfort she has been looking for.
