Katy Perry proved this weekend that you can, indeed, be friends with your fiancé’s ex. Katy and Miranda Kerr, who both have children with Orlando Bloom, were inseparable at the 20th annual G’Day USA Arts Gala over the weekend.
Miranda, who was in a relationship with Orlando from 2007 to 2013, was honored at the event with an Excellence in Arts award presented by Miss “California Girls” herself.
The singer, 38, wore a two-piece gold metallic gown, while the former Victoria’s Secret model, 39, opted for a form-fitting white midi dress.
The two were all smiles while they walked down the red carpet and posed for photos together. Katy, who knows this might seem weird to some people, addressed her closeness to Miranda when giving her speech later in the night.
"Some of you might be confused about why I'm introducing Miranda. That doesn't play into the antiquated narrative of ex-wives and new wives," she began.
"And yes, it's true, most of the media would like to see us mud wrestle, including [Miranda’s husband] Evan [Spiegel], but we are here to lead by love because Miranda is love," the performer continued.
"And as a lot of you know, love comes in many family iterations."
Katy went on to describe Miranda as "a woman who is living her truth every day with grace and beauty." She also added that the model is "dedicated to her three beautiful boys, her partner, and that smoking hot bod."
For those of us with complex families, Katy’s conclusion is especially heartwarming.
"I'm so grateful for our modern blended family," she said. "It's like I gained another sister, one with whom I usually sidebar from the main family chat and agree with."
