King Charles III’s big coronation day is fast approaching, and it appears that there is drama beyond whether or not Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will attend. This drama centers on who will perform at the afterparty the following day on May 7 at Windsor Castle. Two performers on the king’s wish list have reportedly turned down the honor of performing.
According to the Daily Mail, both Adele and Ed Sheeran have declined to perform at the big event. This is a big blow to the monarch, as he wanted them there.
“The King has suggested a number of people he would like to perform and Adele and Ed were on that list. He was very keen that they were part of the concert. There is a team set up to get the talent signed up but they were unavailable, which was a massive disappointment. They are titans of the showbiz industry and are quintessentially British but also known across the globe. It's such a shame,” a source close to the palace stated to the Mail.
For his part, Ed Sheeran has a conflict the day before the potential gig. He is scheduled to give a concert in Texas, but it would still be possible although difficult for him to fly in and perform at Windsor. He has previously performed for the royal family, taking part in the late queen's Platinum Jubilee Pageant last June.
Adele has nothing listed on her public schedule, so it is unknown why she would turn down this honor. She has no concerts planned following the end of her Las Vegas residency on March 25.
King Charles also has his heart set on other British performers, such as Harry Styles. There is no official word on his status as of yet. According to the Mail, both Lionel Richie and the Spice Girls are close to agreeing to perform.
