Los Angeles Woman Catches Contractor Stealing Her Electricity To Complete Neighbor’s Home

Despite what Mister Rogers sang, sometimes being a neighbor can be challenging. One Los Angeles woman is finding this out firsthand. She recently discovered that a contractor who was building a home next door for her neighbor was using her electricity. She found the cord firsthand.

Latoya Abron took to TikTok to vent her frustration about the situation. She goes by the username @lathelyfe. She shared that her electricity bill doubled because of this contractor's actions.

“So I was frustrated because last month my bill went from $200 to almost $400 with my electricity bill because they’re using my electricity to complete a project. They’re building a home. I called the builder to let him know what’s going on, I have not heard back yet, and I also called the police. But they told me I couldn’t make a report,” explained Latoya.

Fellow TikTok users were righteously indignant about this situation on Latoya’s behalf. One user advised, “Call the power company, that’s considered theft.” Another suggested, “I would cut that cord every time they plug it in! The nerve of some people…smh.”

Latoya gave updates in follow-up videos. She said she spoke with a police officer but was advised that she would have to bring up this matter in civil court. Latoya also made the contractor unplug the cord themselves.

“I didn’t unplug it because I wasn’t the one to plug it in,” she explained. “I went and got the contractor and I had him unplug it since that is his profession, not mine.” She has since bought an outlet lock and is still waiting to hear back from the builder.
