Verdict Reached In Murdaugh Murder Trial After Only 3 Hours Of Deliberation

The jury in Alex Murdaugh's murder case has found the 64-year-old guilty of killing his wife, Maggie Murdaugh, and their younger son, Paul Murdaugh. The two were found dead on the family's 1,770-acre property in South Carolina in June 2021.

The jury deliberated for less than three hours before returning with their decision.

Murdaugh's older son, Richard Alexander "Buster" Murdaugh Jr., was in the courtroom when the verdict was delivered. Neither he nor Alex Murdaugh reacted to the decision.

Alex Murdaugh was indicted on July 14, 2022, and charged with two counts of murder and two counts of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. The jury convicted him of each charge.

Murdaugh repeatedly denied killing his wife and son, and often used pet names and nicknames for the two throughout his testimony. At one point he insisted, "I could never intentionally do anything to hurt either one of them. Not ever."

Murdaugh faces additional legal challenges, many of which are financial in nature. These accusations range from misappropriating money from his law firm to defrauding clients of funds.
