Throuple Discusses What It’s Like Raising 2 Young Children In An ‘Anti-Gender’ Household

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if there was less judgment and criticism on different types of parenting styles and just a celebration of love and acceptance?

The family in this video shared by Truly on YouTube discusses gender-neutral parenting by a throuple and what that looks like for their 10-year-old, Hazel, and toddler, Sparrow, who’s just 2 years old.

The parents — Ari, Gwendolyn, and Brynnifer — are in a polyamorous relationship, and they all parent Hazel and Sparrow as one parental unit.

For many reasons, they have decided to have their children identify their own genders on their own time. Hazel identifies as nonbinary, but baby Sparrow is what they consider anti-gender.

“We don’t know [Sparrow’s gender] yet. It’s something that Sparrow’s gonna have to figure out and then tell us,” Ari explains.

This throuple has received never-ending criticism and even violent threats online due to their decision to allow their children to choose how they identify in terms of gender. But they haven’t let that external noise dissuade them from doing what they feel is right for their family.

“Gender is a personal identity. Basically, almost everyone on this planet [is] assigned a gender when we’re young, and for most people, that identity assignment works well enough. For those of us who are transgender, that assignment, it was too radically different from what we felt we needed to express ourselves,” Ari explains.
