The parents of Romeo Pierre Louis need answers. Their 5-year-old son collapsed and died while at school in April 2022, and they still don't know why no one came to his aid.
The parents have accused the teachers at Charter Oak International Academy in West Hartford, Connecticut, of ignoring their son for at least 10 minutes while he lay on the ground, despite the fact that several children told the teachers that Romeo was not OK.
The teachers have said that they believed Romeo was part of a playground game the children at the school called "play dead," and authorities have confirmed that the kids at the school did play the game often. Still, that doesn't fully explain why teachers ignored Romeo for such a long period of time.
Romeo's death was classified as "cardiac channelopathy, brugada syndrome (scn5a variant)" by a coroner. SCN5A gene mutations are associated with Brugada syndrome, described as "a heart condition characterized by an irregular heart rhythm (arrhythmia)."

Romeo's older sister Taty said at a vigil held in his honor, "He was very open, a very lovable little boy. Full of energy, very [about his] family, loving and always wanted attention. He loves his superheroes very much. And I feel like in a way, he was like our superhero."
