Family Is On A Skip Trip In Sweden When They Find Their Son’s Twin In An Old Painting

Traveling is so important. It allows us to have new experiences beyond our everyday life. It gives us a chance to relax and unwind. One family got more than they bargained for in their rural Airbnb cottage.

The Stevensons were on their way home to Sweden when they decided it was time to call it a night. They rented a charming cottage on Airbnb, but it came with some quirks. One of these included an old painting that had a girl in it who looked exactly like their son Barney. While this kind of sounds like the beginning of a horror film, the family took it in stride. Mom Jenny posted about this on Twitter.

The Stevenson family is made up of mom Jenny, Dad Jethro, 14-year-old Dita, 11-year-old Morty, and 8-year-old Barney. They were on their way home from skiing when it became apparent that everyone needed to stop for the night.

“Our children were starting to argue in the backseat, so I found a little cottage for us to stay overnight,” Jenny recalled.

The cottage was in the rural countryside and came complete with squeaky floorboards and antique floral wallpaper. The family put away their luggage and explored. They found one bedroom door that locked from the outside instead of from the inside. That was kind of spooky.

During dinner, the family made an even stranger discovery. An old painting on the wall had a girl in it who looked exactly like Barney.

“My daughter said, ‘Mum, they’ve got a picture of Barney on the wall!'” Jenny explained.

Turns out the painting was by Swedish artist Carl Larsson, who died in 1919. Everyone in the family agreed that the girl in the painting could be Barney’s twin. Barney himself even thought so.

“That expression she’s making in the painting, Barney pulls that face all the time. I’ll ask him to smile for a picture and he gets a very intense, serious look,” revealed Jenny.

Jenny could not keep this experience to herself and posted about it on Twitter. “Just arrived at our secluded rural B&B to find a painting of our youngest child depicted as a small girl. There's absolutely no terrifying precedent for this, so it's probably fine,” she explained to her followers.

Twitter loved this story. Many people chimed in, including one user who used their Photoshop skills to overlay the two photos. They even joked, “is it too late to find another place to stay…?”

Thankfully, the Stevenson family has a pretty good sense of humor. They were able to laugh the whole thing off.

“We’re logic-based people, so we thought it was funny,” Jenny explained. “Though I did think about using the outside bedroom door lock, though. Just in case Barney became possessed in the night!”
