Now those photos are coming in handy. Pentagon Motor Group analyzed over 7 million Instagram hashtags to find the world's most beautiful road trip routes based on Instagram photos per mile. Here are some of the magnificent settings that were found to be the absolute best.
Great Ocean Road, Australia
Great Ocean Road in Australia takes the top spot. The 151-mile stretch of road winds around the Southern Ocean. It has about 8,418 pictures per mile.
Big Sur, California, USA
Big Sur along the California coastline was chosen as the most picturesque place to take a road trip in the United States. Take in magnificent views of the Pacific Ocean. The route averages 5,226 pictures per mile.
Jebel Hafeet, United Arab Emirates
Jebel Hafeet in the United Arab Emirates lets you take a cool trip through the desert. It extends 7.3 miles and tops out at an elevation of 4,000 feet above sea level. It has 4,840 pictures per mile.
Hai Van Pass, Vietnam
Hai Van Pass in Vietnam has 4,298 pictures per mile and is considered one of the world's most beautiful coastal roads. Drivers can take in mountain views over the South China Sea.
Chapman’s Peak Drive, South Africa
Chapman's Peak Drive in South Africa has a number of recreational stops built in along the way, making this ideal for road trippers. There were about 3,425 pictures per mile of the scenic route.
Blue Ridge Parkway, USA
Blue Ridge Parkway takes drivers on a leisurely ride from Charlottesville, Virginia, to Asheville, North Carolina. The road takes you through mountains, meadows, and more. There were 1,148 pictures per mile.
Going-to-the-Sun Road, Montana, USA
Going-to-the-Sun Road is a 50-mile, two-lane highway that takes you through some pretty spectacular sights in Montana. Tourists have taken about 940 pictures per mile.
Wild Atlantic Way, Ireland
Wild Atlantic Way is considered Ireland's best spot to road-trip, with about 853 pictures taken per mile. The twisting 1,500-plus-mile road travels the very edge of Europe, giving lots of views of white sand beaches and incredible cliffs.
Olympic Peninsula Loop, Washington, USA
Olympic Peninsula Loop shows the beauty of the Washington state coast, with 798 pictures taken per mile. You get to take in the Native American influence in different areas as you travel through.
Icefields Parkway, Alberta, Canada
Icefields Parkway in the Alberta province is Canada is 144 miles of sights including beautiful lakes and the Canadian Rockies on the Continental Divide. It takes drivers from Banff National Park to Jasper National Park, where tourists have taken 781 pictures per mile.
