Tragedy struck in Tampa on Sunday, April 30, 2023. Two-year-old Arrayah Barrett drowned in her family’s pool. She was the youngest daughter of Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Shaquil Barrett.
At around 9:30 a.m., authorities responded to a 911 call. Arrayah was taken to a local hospital, and lifesaving measures were attempted. Unfortunately, they were not successful, and she was pronounced dead at the medical facility.
At this time, the incident is believed to be an accident, although the investigation is still ongoing.
"It is not believed to be suspicious in nature at this time, but a purely accidental and tragic incident," the Tampa Police Department said in a statement.
Shaquil shares four children with his wife, Jordanna Barrett. The couple were high school sweethearts. Arrayah had just celebrated her second birthday.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers issued a statement expressing their sympathies about this horrible incident: "Today's tragic news is heartbreaking for all the members of the Buccaneers family. Our thoughts and prayers are with Shaq, Jordanna and the entire Barrett family during this unimaginably difficult time. While no words can provide true comfort at a time such as this, we offer our support and love as they begin to process this very profound loss of their beloved Arrayah."
Tom Brady also offered his condolences on social media. In his Instagram stories, he posted a photo of the Barrett family with the words “the Brady's love you” overlaid on it. He and Shaquil are former teammates.
