Suspect In Natalee Holloway’s 2005 Disappearance Will Be Extradited From Peru To The US

Natalee Holloway's mother, Beth Holloway, has announced that the Danish suspect in her daughter's disappearance will be extradited to the United States to face fraud charges.

In 2010, Joran van der Sloot was indicted by a jury in Alabama on wire fraud and extortion charges. He was accused of attempting to get $250,000 from Beth Holloway to get information about what happened to her daughter.

Beth Holloway said, "I was blessed to have had Natalee in my life for 18 years, and as of this month, I have been without her for exactly 18 years. She would be 36 years old now. It has been a very long and painful journey, but the persistence of many is going to pay off. Together, we are finally getting justice for Natalee."

Van der Sloot is currently in Peru, where he is serving a 28-year sentence for killing Stephany Flores. He killed Flores five years to the day from Natalee Holloway's disappearance.

Officials in Peru had previously said they would extradite van der Sloot after the completion of his murder sentence. His attorney, Maximo Altez, has explained he plans to fight extradition to the States. He commented, "I am going to challenge that resolution. I am going to oppose it since he has the right to a defense."
