Katlyn Gardenhire and her boyfriend planned a couples' trip. They decided to fly out from their hometown in Arkansas to Denver, Colorado, and spend the weekend sightseeing.
While Katlyn made it to Denver OK, her boyfriend's flight got canceled at the last minute because of inclement weather.
Not wanting her trip to be completely ruined, Katlyn ordered an Uber the next morning so she could go check out Red Rocks Park on her own.
The Uber arrived, and her driver was an older man. "I could have easily ignored Robert when I got in the car," Katlyn wrote on Facebook. "I could have sat in the back seat on my phone, but I didn't."
Instead, Katlyn chose to sit in the front seat, and she began chatting away.
It didn't take long for Katlyn to realize her driver, Robert, was in need of someone, anyone, to talk to.
Though she has faced many health issues herself, Katlyn always had someone to talk to. Coming to that realization made her a more empathetic person.
During their conversation in the Uber, Katlyn learned Robert was an Air Force veteran and retired postal worker. When they arrived at Red Rocks Park, she didn't want to say goodbye to her new friend.
