As a parent, it can be nerve-wracking when your kids choke, especially since their little hands move quickly and grab anything near them. Choking incidents are more prevalent in toddlers, but it's even more alarming when infants choke.
Inside Edition shared a video about a deputy who saves a 4-week-old little girl from choking. A deputy and a detective from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department in California entered a home after the department received a distress call.
The deputies walked in to see a small baby girl who had stopped breathing. Instead of waiting for the ambulance to arrive, the deputies took matters into their own hands. They quickly started to perform infant CPR on the little girl.
Inside Edition stated, “In the US, at least one child dies choking on food every five days according to the New York State Department of Health, and choking is the fourth leading cause of unintentional death in children under the age of 5.”
After the little girl was taken to the hospital, medical staff determined she aspirated after vomiting. The deputy's quick response to perform CPR saved her life.
