California Man Says He Beat Coworker With Pipe Because Of Alleged Affair With His Wife

Jose Gutierrez-Rosales has been accused of beating coworker Hector Javier Castaneda Vasquez to death with an irrigation pipe while both were on a jobsite in 2022. Vasquez was reportedly having an affair with Gutierrez-Rosales' wife.

Gutierrez-Rosales has admitted to the crime, providing authorities with a variety of reasons why he did it.

Gutierrez-Rosales told investigators, "We were there picking up the pipes. I ate about two tacos, and I felt my body like strange, and then all of a sudden, I grabbed the pipe, and I just started going at him."

Gutierrez-Rosales also states that he killed his coworker because the man was having an affair with his wife. Gutierrez-Rosales complained that his coworkers were making fun of him about the relationship, saying that "they provoked all of this."

Vasquez suffered numerous facial fractures and cuts to his face during the attack. He also lost several of his teeth.

A woman has come forward to contradict elements of Gutierrez-Rosales' story, explaining that the two were not, in fact, married. She says they had dated for three months before she broke things off.

Authorities are now attempting to deduce whether or not Gutierrez-Rosales was ever married. The woman also told authorities that Gutierrez-Rosales has anger issues.

Coworkers of Gutierrez-Rosales immediately identified him as the killer, and Gutierrez-Rosales attempted to flee the scene of the crime by driving away. He eventually gave up, leaving his car and walking to Bakersfield, California, to turn himself in.
