The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner disclosed that Lisa Marie Presley died of small bowel obstruction, which was caused by adhesions that were a complication of the singer-songwriter's bariatric surgery.
"This is a known long-term complication of this type of surgery," Deputy Medical Examiner Dr. Juan Carrillo said.
The singer-songwriter, who was Elvis and Priscilla Presley's only daughter, died on January 12, 2023.
On January 12, Lisa was taken to the hospital because she was not breathing. Paramedics performed CPR when they arrived and said she showed "signs of life," according to People. The singer-songwriter later died at the hospital.
The star was 54 years old. She died less than a month before what would've been her 55th birthday.
On February 1, the day that would've been Lisa Marie's 55th birthday, Priscilla took to Instagram to make a statement.
"Today would have been Lisa’s 55th birthday. My wish is to protect my three grandchildren and keep our family together," she wrote. "From the first moment I held Lisa in my arms, I’ve protected, loved and guided her, as I have my son. Our hearts are broken, and I am having to learn to live without my only daughter. We truly love all of you, and we feel your prayers. Thank you so much for caring so deeply for our family."

Lisa Marie was born on February 1, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee. She released three albums and was also a philanthropist.
Priscilla also released a statement shortly after Lisa Marie's death.
"It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us," she said in a statement to People at the time. "She was the most passionate strong and loving woman I have ever known. We ask for privacy as we try to deal with this profound loss. Thank you for the love and prayers."
