The principal at a performing arts academy in Sacramento, California, called an assembly about the school's dress code. But the female students in the auditorium quickly became uncomfortable when they realized the focus was on them.
During the assembly, the principal specifically called out the female students wearing crop tops and showing "too much midriff."
The students decided to take a stand.
Now they're going viral for having staged a protest and walking out of school. They proudly donned their crop tops, hung signs, and wrote messages of protest across their stomachs, such as, "Teach boys to focus, not girls to cover up."

Evita Frick-Hisaw led the walkout and posted clips in real time to her TikTok and Instagram. She called the dress code "sexist" and says the rules and general attitudes toward the female body only perpetuate rape culture.
