In a heartwarming and uplifting tale of resilience, and the power of a mother’s unwavering support, a mom saved her daughter’s birthday party after no one showed up, turning what could have been a disappointing day into a celebration of love and togetherness.
Inside Edition shared Lex Fitzgerald and her daughter Willa’s story, proving that the love from a community is stronger than some think.
When the picture of Willa at her party is shown, it’s an instant heartbreak. At the end of a long, decorated table, she sits alone, waiting for all the classmates she had invited to show up. Lex Fitzgerald stated, “I was like oh my goodness, did I get the time wrong? She was just sitting there. My heart broke. She was just sitting there waiting for her friends to arrive and I just didn’t know what to do.”
Not one of Willa’s friends showed up to her party, even though they got RSVPs back from a lot of them. Lex quickly thought of an idea that could bring Willa some party guests.
Lex posted a picture of Willa at her empty party table to her local community page with the caption, “If anyone has young kids and looking for something to do right now, no one showed up to my daughter’s birthday party. It’s her first (and likely last) party. We’d love to celebrate with you.”
Within 15 minutes of Lex making that post, people started showing up to Willa’s party and did not come empty-handed. Willa even got presents from the families of their community that came to attend her party.

Lex described it as, “The most incredible show of neighborly love and community.” The video taken of the party in full swing was a lot different than the picture of Willa taken earlier that day. The room was filled with kids and families celebrating her and singing her "Happy Birthday."
