PGA golfer Erik Compton has been arrested and charged with both felony and misdemeanor crimes following an alleged domestic violence incident that involved his wife on August 19, 2023.
The golfer and his wife, Yessinia Gonzalez, were at their home in southwest Miami-Dade County, Florida. They allegedly started having an argument over "relationship issues," according to the arrest report from the Miami-Dade Police Department. Gonzalez reportedly took out her phone to record the incident when she claims Compton grabbed the phone and threw it in the pool before things escalated.
The 43-year-old golfer then allegedly grabbed his wife by her shoulders and threw her against the wall. According to the report, she sustained small bruises on her left arm as a result.
His wife then left their house and went to a friend's home. From the friend's home, she called the police. Compton invoked his right to an attorney and refused to comment on the incident.

According to the report, the golfer was arrested and charged with strong-armed robbery, which is a second-degree felony, as well as misdemeanor battery. He was taken into custody at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami, but later freed on bond.
Compton was previously married to Barbara Compton. They wed in 2008 and welcomed their daughter, Petra Compton, in 2009.
The former couple divorced in 2017, the same year he married Gonzalez. Gonzalez and Compton share a son, Jaxon.
Earlier in the day when the incident took place, Compton posted a picture of him and Gonzalez to his Instagram. "Not much to be said, be ready when the wife says it’s dinner time on #saturday #night. Ready in #5 My #love , my #energy ! Thank you for making my life fun and #loving me. #miaminights #miamilife .#hotsuace lol," he captioned the post.
