In a heart-stopping moment that turned into an inspiring story of courage and sibling bonds, two young brothers demonstrated remarkable bravery by rescuing a 7-year-old from drowning in a pool. The swift action not only saved a life, but it serves as a reminder of the significance of water safety and the impact of quick thinking in critical situations.
The whole incident, which occurred at an apartment complex swimming pool near Flint, Michigan, was caught on video. Griffin Emerson was playing in the shallow end, but he started to drift off further into the deep end. Griffin was underwater for nearly a minute when the two brothers, Noah and Weston, who are 8 and 12, noticed something wasn’t right.
Noah was on a float and Weston was poolside when then they noticed Griffin. When Noah was asked if he was the first to notice Griffin, he stated, “Yes, I saw him at the bottom of the pool and I told Weston.” Weston then described what he did after Noah informed him, “So I dived in there, and I grabbed him, and his eyes were shut.”
Weston pulled Griffin up from the bottom of the pool and was able to get him out of the pool with some help from a man who was nearby. While they were rescuing Griffin out of the pool their mother called 911. During the 911 phone call, their mother informed operators that Griffin was receiving CPR because he was not breathing, and he was blue.
Their mother told Inside Edition, “He was very lifeless for what felt like hours.” In the video, you can see Griffin’s mother conducting CPR on him, and soon after he began coughing up water. Once he was conscious again, they put him in a lounge chair, and you could see that he could move around.

The two boys were honored for their heroic act in a special ceremony, and each of them got a $100 check and a special thank-you from the sheriff. The action of these boys underlines the significance of water safety education and should be an eye-opener for future trips to the pool.
