A bizarre news story came out of New Mexico about a 12-year-old boy who was arrested after allegedly stealing an SUV and taking a joyride with some friends, all of whom managed to leave the vehicle before getting caught by police.
The chase ended after the boy accidentally crashed the car into another, which contained multiple children. Luckily, nobody was killed due to his negligence, although several members of the car were treated at the hospital afterward for non-life-threatening injuries.
Doña Ana County deputies had gotten several calls about a car that was driving others off the roadways. When they finally caught up with the tween, they found a 9 mm handgun had been thrown from the car, and the tween had bullets in his pockets. It was a situation that could have easily escalated into a shootout.
When the police apprehended the tween driver, they learned he already had an outstanding felony warrant for conspiracy to commit burglary of a vehicle. The young burglar was reportedly too small to even reach the pedals of the vehicle.
Sources say the boy was crying when he was caught, blaming peer pressure for making him drive the vehicle. Since his actions don't necessarily align with his story, it's hard to know what exactly happened.
KRQE reports that deputies also don't think that the boy's story adds up, especially since he was the one found with bullets in his pocket.
Deputies also state that at one point, there were five kids in the vehicle. But as the car was driving, many of them got out, leaving the driver behind to crash head-first into the other car.
