One of the sex abuse victims of Laura Whitehurst, a former English teacher and soccer coach who was impregnated by a different student, will receive a $2.25 million settlement from the Redlands Unified School District.
This brings the total amount to $8.25 million that will be paid out to Whitehurst's victims since her arrest in 2013. The latest lawsuit was filed in 2021 by a former student who claimed that the former teacher preyed on and sexually abused him in 2007 and 2008, when he was 14 years old.
Whitehurst admitted to having sex with the student as many as 15 times inside her San Bernardino classroom and at her apartment. The teacher pleaded guilty to unlawful sex with three of her former students, one of whom she shares a baby with.
At the time, Whitehurst served six months in prison and became a registered sex offender in 2014. The father of her child received a payout of $6 million in 2016 for the abuse he endured.
