Head Writers For Drew Barrymore’s Show Decline To Return After Actress Crossed Picket Line

With the WGA writers strike now over, The Drew Barrymore Show is set to return on air on October 16, 2023. But in recent news, the head writers have made the decision not to return.

According to sources, Chelsea White, Cristina Kinon, and Liz Koe declined an offer to come back to write for the show. The trio of women all shared the title of co-head writer. They had been working for the show since its first season, and were visible in and committed to their stance during the writer's strike

When the series returned mid-strike, the writers shared that they didn't even find out from Drew. They found out via social media after seeing audience ticket giveaways posted.

"It is a bummer to hear that the show is going back because it sends a message that union writers are not valuable,” Chelsea shared at the time. “I understand that everybody has to do what they feel is best for them. For me and the WGA writers on the show, it’s important for us to stick with our union. We deserve a fair contract, so we are here today outside," Cristina chimed in.

In September, Drew made a post defending her decision to start back up the show mid-controversy. “I own this choice,” she said.

Although initially, in May, she decided not to host the MTV Movie & TV Awards to show solidarity with the WGA, she did end up winning the award for best host that night. She submitted an acceptance speech where she called the three writers “our amazing, amazing writers." They all earned two Emmy nominations for their writing contributions to the show. "This is definitely for them and every single person who makes this show.”
