Victoria Arlenis was born a triplet alongside her two brothers. As a child, she loved to dance and was an extremely skilled athlete. She was a bubbly, energetic little girl.
But by the age of 11, Victoria had been experiencing flu-like symptoms, fainting spells and pneumonia. Within two weeks, she was paralyzed from the waist down and her abilities were gradually slipping away. She had severe inflammation in her brain and spinal cord and her family noticed she was less engaged.
Things only worsened from there. Victoria completely lost the ability to speak, eat and move. She entered a vegetative state.
Victoria spent nearly four years "locked" inside her own body. Doctors told her family it was unlikely she would recover. "I was losing her," her mom Jacqueline said.

No one knew, however, that while Victoria lay in her hospital bed without the ability to move or communicate, she was aware of her surroundings.
In 2010, Victoria finally awoke from her vegetative state paralyzed from the waist down.
But her incredible story was far from over.
