Teens Attack Woman For Raising A ‘Crunchy Vegan Baby’ Who Breastfeeds And Doesn’t Eat Meat

We live in the kind of world where everybody has opinions on any and everything, and sometimes they're not afraid to let their opinions be known. One mother ran into the unsolicited opinions of her younger sister's friends who seem to believe they know what's better for her child than she does.

The mother of two took to Reddit to figure out if she's in the wrong for allowing her sister's friends to believe she has a "crunchy vegan baby."

She started out giving some context.

"My daughter is six months old and breastfed," the post starts off. "I am vegan, my husband isn't, and our toddler is vegetarian/vegan-ish (he doesn't like animal dairy but will ravish eggs). We don't cook meat in the home, although my husband eats it out of the home, and our toddler isn't a fan. Before anyone jumps on my a– he has been introduced to it because his dad eats it. He just prefers fries. (Same, kid)."

The woman and daughter were visiting her parents.

So the woman and her baby girl go to have dinner at her parents' house one day. "My mom is also vegan so we were eating our tofu and rice. My daughter has just started solids so she was also going ham on my plate. My parents dog ate more than I did."

Her younger sister had her friends over.

So the woman's 15-year-old sister had some of her friends over. They were eating burgers and giving the woman some glances, especially after she ate and nursed her baby. One of them asked if she was vegan, to which the woman said she is. Then the friend asked if the baby was going to be vegan.

The woman shrugged at the question about her baby.

"I just kinda shrugged because, you know, she could be a dairy hating fry fiend like her brother or a cheese-aholic like her daddy. Maybe, maybe not. My sisters friend nodded and spoke to me a little more before leaving. I thought it was a little odd but shrugged it off. Teens are weird creatures sometimes."

The teens decided the woman is a 'crunchy vegan mom.'

So the sister's friends made a big deal out of things once they left, assuming that the woman has a "crunchy vegan baby," which is a whole TikTok trend. The woman's sister then sent her an article on the "importance of a balanced diet for kids among a few other bits" so the woman eventually called her.

The sister called her a bad mom.

So the sister said the woman is a bad mom and blew up on her because the friends believed she abused her child by her veganism. Because the sister never saw the baby eat meat, she also believed the assumption.

The teen said her older sister should've been clearer.

After the Reddit user defended and explained her parenting, the sister got mad "because all her friends think I'm a terrible mom and I should have been clearer and not just shrugged her friends question off because I should have known what they would have assumed I meant," the OP wrote. "I think she's being dramatic. They were worried, wires got crossed, all is well. She's still acting like its the worst thing in the world."

The woman wanted opinions on whether she's in the wrong.

"So, basically, aita for making a mistake and having my sisters friends think I've got a crunchy vegan baby? As a side note, my husband was feeling petty so he went and got ribs for lunch. Filmed little lady eating her first rib. I can now firmly say she will not be a vegan, vegetarian or anything of the sort. Happier than a kid on Christmas."

"Are you the AH because of something that ignorant teenagers think about something they have no actual knowledge of?" one person commented. "Let me think on that a minute. No. NTA."

"There was a story about a child who died from a ridiculously restricted diet given by his vegan parents, so maybe that’s what they have heard of," another user explained. "If you are eating a well-balanced diet and supplement with B12, then you and your baby are fine. So far, he’s just a boobatarian! It’s not even a real issue till he’s over 1, and if he eats a variety of plant products, he’s fine."
