LGBTQ Kid Gets Back At Homophobic Mom By Sharing Her Secret Meatloaf Recipe With The World

LGBTQ teens have it incredibly hard. In a world that isn't accepting, for every moment they live their truth, the concern of who might object lingers. It's an unfortunate fact of today's society that 42% of LGBT youth live in communities that aren't accepting of their identities, according to the Human Rights Campaign. What's worse is that many of those kids are struggling to be accepted by not only their communities but also their own families.

One of these teens decided to enact some revenge for the treatment they endured. The teen took to both Reddit and Tumblr to share the story of their family's meatloaf recipe. The teen explained that the recipe was top secret, with their mom not sharing it until they were 19. The teen didn't mind keeping the secret. That changed when they came out to their mom. After mom was "homophobic and abusive" at the news that her child was gay, the teen decided to share that meatloaf recipe with the world. Now deemed "revenge loaf," the recipe has taken the internet by storm.

LGBTQ teens have a hard time. Adolescence is a difficult enough time as it is. When you're coming to terms with who you are in an environment that's not accepting of your very identity, it can feel like the whole world is against you.

It takes a lot of courage for teens to come out to the people they are close to in their lives. It's an incredibly vulnerable situation. Sadly, these revelations aren't always met with acceptance by family members or close friends.

One LGBTQ teen came out to their mother and didn't get the love and acceptance they deserved. The youth then decided to enact some revenge. That's how the internet learned about "revenge meatloaf."

"When I was little, my mom’s meatloaf was my favorite food," the unidentified teen shared on Reddit and Tumblr. "I didn’t like anyone else’s, and she told me that she would teach me how to make it when I was older. And when I was 19? She finally taught me but she told me never to tell anyone else and I was like weird but okay."

The teen lost their desire to keep the family recipe secret when they stopped being treated as a significant member of their own family, however. "Anyway, she was super [expletive] homophobic and abusive to me when I told her I was gay, so here’s the recipe," the teen wrote.

The tasty meatloaf recipe doesn't include breadcrumbs, causing some spirited discussion among commenters. Instead, a packet of instant soup mix appears to act as the binding ingredient, and it also maximizes flavor. It can be appetizing even if you don't like meatloaf.

Author Marjorie Ingall shared the recipe with her Twitter followers. It didn't take long for it to start going viral. "Last night my LGBT kid told me about Revenge Meatloaf and tonight I made Revenge Meatloaf," she wrote.

The revenge meatloaf recipe resulted in so many good jokes. People were happy to help this teen with their revenge vendetta. It's a beautiful show of community for someone who didn't receive the same respect from their own family.

So many outlets picked up the story, it's impossible that this person's mother hasn't gotten wind of this by now. We wonder how this mom would react. Judging by her reaction to her own child living their truth, we can't imagine it went well.

The best iteration of revenge meatloaf may have been by this food artist. The artist  fashioned the meatloaf to let that mother know exactly what she should do. The internet approved resoundingly.

What people seem to love most about this form of revenge is how petty it is. No one's life is going to be ruined by a family recipe leaking to the public. It's one of those things that will slowly gnaw at you, however.

This Twitter user makes a very good point. The main dish you serve is only as good as the side dishes you serve with it. In this case, the sides need to be full of the love this coldhearted mother clearly lacks.

All revenge aside, this recipe has some serious strengths. The ingredients are cheap and easy to get. The leftover possibilities are endless. The original Reddit poster even suggested using the leftovers for tacos!

This Reddit/Tumblr user could never have known how appropriate their meatloaf tweet would become. May you reheat your revenge meatloaf. Be filled with the warm feeling of sticking it to someone who couldn't love her child for who they are.
