As a registered nurse, Johanna brings a fresh perspective to her content, aiming to educate and connect with her audience. Her latest video dives into the complex and emotional topic of vanishing twin syndrome.

Vanishing twin syndrome, as described by Joanna, is a condition that unfolds exactly as the name suggests. In the initial stages of pregnancy, a woman may discover she is carrying twins, with two distinct sacs and two developing fetuses. But in some cases, one of the fetuses inexplicably disappears as the pregnancy progresses, resulting in a miscarriage. She explains, “The fetal tissue typically gets reabsorbed by the other twin, or it gets absorbed into the placenta of the mom which gives the appearance of vanishing twin.”

In this video, not only does Joanna explain what vanishing twin syndrome is, but she bravely opens up to her viewers about her experience with it. She explains that when she got pregnant, she immediately knew that she was having twins. She was dreaming about twins, she saw twins everywhere she went, even when she cracked open an egg there were two egg yolks!

When she went in for her first ultrasound appointment, she was about 8 to 9 weeks pregnant, and the lady asked her if twins ran in her family. Joanna replied yes that she was a twin, she had a twin brother. When the lady started the ultrasound, she found baby No. 1 who had a strong heartbeat but baby No. 2 did not have a heartbeat.
