Woman Buys Fertilized Egg From Restaurant, Hatches Pet Duck Who Becomes Her Best Friend

Nowadays, it seems people are getting more creative with their pet choices than ever before. Gone are the days of just having a dog or cat. Now people have all sorts of animals, ranging from pigs to ferrets to raccoons. One woman in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, made an impulse purchase that led to her hatching her very own pet and best friend, a duck named Daisy.

According to Bored Panda, the woman, 39-year-old Erica Lim, went to a Vietnamese restaurant in Puchong. The restaurant sells precooked fertilized eggs, known as balut, for people to eat as a snack. Balut is a controversial Southeast Asian food that involves taking a developing bird embryo and boiling it before eating it from the shell.

Erica purchased some fertilized eggs on a whim and decided to incubate them in her own home rather than eat them. She built her own incubator and hoped for the best. Two weeks later, a little duckling hatched. Erica named her new pet duck Daisy.

Remember when Chandler and Joey had the chick and the duck as pets on Friends? It may have piqued your interest in having a pet duck of your own.

One woman in Malaysia decided to give it a shot. She purchased fertilized duck eggs used for making balut and decided to incubate them in her home.

Erica Lim made her own incubator out of a Styrofoam box and some heat lamps. She put a few eggs in, unsure whether she would be able to hatch them. She had tried once before, and it didn't work.

Two weeks later, Erica saw her first sign of success. A tiny little beak began pecking through one of the eggs!

Of the eggs she incubated, one hatched successfully. Another hatched prematurely and didn't make it.

Erica became a duck mom that day. She took fondly to her little duckling. Although her pet's name is Daisy, she calls the duck by the nickname Bibit.

Daisy still needed to hang out with a heat lamp for a while until her feathers fully came in. Look at how sweet that little duckling looks!

The bond between Erica and Daisy was pretty instantaneous. Their days together are very similar to any other pet owners with their pets.

Daisy loves to watch TV with Erica. She snuggles up in a blanket and hangs out with her mom.

Daisy doesn't mind dressing up, either. Check out her cute little crocheted pink skirt!

Of course, Daisy loves to splash around. She is a duck, after all. She can often be found taking a dip in the tub or having some other adventure in the bathroom.

Just as puppies and kittens grow up, so do ducklings. With ducks, it happens a bit faster. It was just a matter of months before Daisy looked like a fully grown duck.

Now, Daisy lays an egg every 25 hours! That gives Erica a lot of eggs to enjoy and share with family and friends.

Daisy is now about 2 years old. Erica hopes that by sharing their adventures, she can show people how fun it is to have a pet duck.
