Police Receive Toxicology Report For Three Kansas City Chiefs Fans Found Dead Outside

Police have received the initial toxicology reports for the three Kansas City Chiefs fans who were found dead outside of their friend's home on January 9, 2024. The three men, Ricky Johnson, 38, Clayton McGeeney, 36, and David Harrington, 37, went to their friend's house on January 7 to watch the playoff game against the Los Angeles Chargers and never returned home.

WDAF reported that police have been in contact with the victims' families after receiving the toxicology reports, but the cause of the men's deaths is still being investigated and police are still waiting on autopsies.

On February 1, police told WDAF that details from the toxicology reports have not been made public. "There have been no additional details of this case revealed to any media, nor are there any plans to at this time. The case remains an ongoing death investigation,” a spokesperson for the police told WDAF.

But on February 2, NewsNation reported that the victims' family members shared some details from the reports: The men reportedly had drugs, including cocaine and fentanyl, in their systems.

On X, NewsNation National Correspondent Alex Caprariello wrote that he received information from an anonymous family member, and confirmed it with a second source.

"A family member, who asked to remain anonymous, tells me cocaine, fentanyl and THC showed up in the preliminary results. The family source says level 10 fentanyl is enough to kill. The #KansasCity3 were at level 30," he wrote on X.

The three men were found after McGeeney’s fiancée went to the house to look for them. She eventually discovered a dead body and called the police, who found the two additional dead bodies.

The police asserted that there were no signs of foul play and that their deaths were not being investigated as homicides. However, the whole situation is not "adding up" for some of the victims' loved ones.

Some people have been suspicious of the man who lived at the home where his friends died. The man's lawyer, John Picerno, has said that the man didn't know his friends were in his yard or that they needed medical attention.

Caleb McGeeney, Clayton McGeeney’s cousin, previously told WDAF that the man's explanation of what happened seemed to have "a lot of holes in it."

"Like last time he saw them, they were leaving the house, but he didn’t know they had left; that doesn’t make much sense,” he told WDAF.

Johnson's brother, Jonathan Price, also expressed his skepticism when speaking to CBS. "The only thing I know for a fact is that I don't accept that my brother just froze to death," he told CBS. "There has to be something else involved. Whether it's drugs or something else, I have no idea."

The attorney for McGeeney's family, Tony Kagay, believes that the toxicology report is just one part of the investigation, and more will need to be done in order to determine what led to their deaths.

“I don’t think that anyone familiar with this situation or this investigation thought that there wasn’t something else in play here and I think that the toxicology report is going to be the first step on many steps in the investigation as to who is responsible for these men’s tragic deaths,” he said on Cuomo, reported NewsNation.
