One mom enjoys involving her child in different aspects of her life — including grocery shopping. The mom shared a video on TikTok that showed her 1-year-old helping her at self-checkout at the grocery store. She explained that the supermarket she goes to was designed with families in mind — the store has small shopping carts for kids and also has checkouts that are closer to the ground. Yet a lot of people who viewed her video were not happy that she let her kid help her at checkout.
While the mom saw checking out at the grocery store as a fun learning experience for her kid, people in the comments thought she was being selfish and wasting people's time. Some called it "inconsiderate" and said maybe she should teach her kid "social awareness" instead.
"Take a step back if you think this is moving too slow; I think we make a pretty great team #toddlerlife," the mom wrote in the caption on the video.
Over the video, she also wrote, "Pov: the line behind you is growing, and people are looking at you, but you don’t care because your child is learning, and rushing is what gives young children anxiety."
And people were disgusted.
One person suggested that the toddler's life lessons should happen at home so other customers at the store don't have to deal with waiting in line. “This is why they make developmental toys that they can use at home without being inconsiderate to others," the person wrote.
The mom later deleted her video, but she made a new video responding to one of the negative comments. "Teach her to leave your shopping cart in the middle of the aisle next," one person wrote, seemingly implying that the mom was teaching her 1-year-old to be disrespectful and not be mindful of others.

In the video, the 1-year-old puts the shopping cart back where it belongs. People were still critical of the video, with one person writing, "Have some respect for others around you. The world does not revolve around your kids."
Others were alarmed by the number of negative comments the mom had received on the original video. "The lack of respect for mothers and children in communities nowadays is frightening," one person commented.
Another person was annoyed about how people seem to think that public spaces are only for certain people. "Everyone is acting like a public space is only a space for fast abled adults ," the person wrote.
