In October 2023 Michael Strahan was notably absent from his hosting duties on Good Morning America. Audiences were not told why until January 2024. With the help of coanchor Robin Roberts, Michael and his 19-year-old daughter Isabella Strahan announced she was diagnosed with brain cancer.
Isabella has been transparent about her difficult treatment process. She has been vlogging her way through it and posting her thoughts on YouTube. On Friday, January 16, 2024, she shared that the side effects from chemotherapy have been extremely painful.
Isabella is currently recovering at home. “Everything hurts,” she stated. “My eyes are strained. They hurt to look to the sides. My whole mouth feels like I got one giant root canal of my whole mouth of every single tooth and just ripped out and not even surgically put back in.”
Isabella revealed that brain surgery and radiation were much easier for her than chemotherapy. “This one’s just the longest journey. Just the hardest. I think it just stresses me out because so much could go wrong,” she revealed. “I feel. It’s like, ‘Oh, no. My heart hurts. That could mean I’m having a heart attack.’ Or like, my eyes strained, what if my eyes stop working? Or like, what if my teeth just rot and fall out? I don’t know.”

There’s no place like home. “It’s my first time home and I slept in my bed for the first time in a while,” she explained. “Personally, I don’t mind the hospital too much because I feel safe. But I do like being home.”
