A 1-year-old boy was mauled to death by three dogs while at his babysitter's house in Duncanville, Texas. The child, who has not yet been identified, died after suffering severe injuries on April 15, 2024. The incident took place at the residence where the toddler was being babysat.
The dogs reportedly were confined outside and somehow made their way into the home, Duncanville Interim Police Chief Matthew Stogner said in a news conference. Police arrived on scene around 10:40 a.m. and "immediately began performing life-saving measures on the unconscious child."
The boy was transported to Children’s Medical Center in Dallas as they continued to work on him. He was later pronounced dead. According to Stogner, the dogs were of "[German] shepherd mix," and weighed approximately 80 pounds. "The dogs were outside, somehow they made their way back inside the house where the incident took place."
Three other kids were believed to be in the home at the time. While they were not hurt, the resident of the home was injured while trying to come in between the dogs and the child. "The dogs were confined in the house, they were not loose. The resident at the location, she attempted to pull the dogs from the infant unsuccessfully until the officers got there, at which point, she sustained some injuries as well."

"Our hearts go out to the family. This is certainly a tragedy," Stogner said. "It's important for all animal owners to ensure that their animals are confined and if there's kids around to ensure that there's some adult supervision around in case something like this were to happen."
