Former Slack CEO’s Teen Daughter Is Missing And Is Believed To Have Run Away

The 16-year-old child of two entrepreneurs has been reported missing. Mint Butterfield was last seen on Sunday, April 21, 2024, in Bolinas, California, according to the Marin County Sheriff's Office. On Nextdoor, the Marin County Sheriff's Office informed people that Mint was reported missing on April 22.

The teen's dad, Stewart Butterfield, is the cofounder and former CEO of online messaging platform Slack. Mint's mom, entrepreneur Caterina Fake, was the one who reported the teen missing, according to the San Francisco Standard.

Deputy K. Walther shared on Nextdoor that the teen is believed to be in the San Francisco area "after running away."

The Marin County Sheriff's Office also released some details about Mint's appearance. According to the announcement, the teen has "brown/reddish curly hair" and pierced eyebrows.

The last time the teen was seen, they were wearing "a black sweatshirt, flannel pajama pants, and black boots" and might have had a gray suitcase. They also shared that the teen is about 5'0" tall and 100 lbs.

Adam Schermerhorn, a sergeant with the Marin County Sheriff’s Office, told the San Francisco Chronicle that Mint is “believed to be in the Tenderloin” area of San Francisco.

Tenderloin is an infamous neighborhood known for high crime rates and drug usage and trafficking.

The San Francisco Standard reported that the teen allegedly has a history of substance abuse. The teen's parents, Caterina and Stewart, cofounded Flickr in 2004 before selling it.

Stewart and Caterina got divorced in 2007. Stewart went on to cofound Slack, but left the company in 2022 after it was acquired by Salesforce.

Forbes estimates Stewart's net worth at $1.6 billion.
