Melissa McCarthy posted photos on Instagram on April 29 — and Barbra Streisand commented to ask her if she has used Ozempic for weight loss. Many were surprised by the casual, direct nature of Barbra's comment, and by the fact that she thought it was appropriate to ask the question publicly. Others defended the Funny Girl star, saying that she might not be super social media savvy and might've thought she was sending a private message to Melissa.
In the photos, Melissa is pictured alongside director Adam Shankman.
In the photos, Melissa is wearing a pastel green blazer and a pastel green tulle dress. She captioned the post with, "Pastels only to honor the incredible @matthewbourne13 at the @ctgla gala last night with this fella @adamshankman !! Thiiiiis much closer to my dream of dancing on stage "
The post was clearly not about weight loss, but that didn't stop Barbra from commenting, "Give him my regards did you take Ozempic?"
She has deleted the comment.

In the comments, many reacted to what Barbra had written.
One person wrote, "Babs. No, honey. Just no."
Some gave Barbra the benefit of the doubt, writing that she probably meant to ask the question privately.
"I think Barbara thought it was a dm (direct message)," one person commented.
Another Instagram user insisted that Barbra "would never do that on purpose."
The same Instagram user thought Barbra probably "meant that for a private question" and asked others to "show her some grace."
Many social media users thought the comment was inappropriate and completely unfiltered, and Barbra later took to X to explain what had happened.
"OMG," she wrote. "I went on Instagram to see the photos of the beautiful flowers I'd received for my birthday. Below them was a photo of my friend Melissa McCarthy who I sang with on my Encore album."
"She looked fantastic," Barbra continued. "I just wanted to pay her a compliment. I forgot the world is reading!"
Some reacted to her statement by saying that she didn't need to explain herself because the comment she made wasn't a huge deal.
Others wondered if she really thought asking Melissa about Ozempic use was a compliment.
Melissa has previously spoken about her weight and she has tried diets before, like a doctor-supervised all-liquid diet. Although she lost about 70 pounds at the time, she previously told People that she would "never do that again."
In 2016, she took to Instagram to write, "We have to stop categorizing and judging women based on their bodies."
