A good teacher always tries to show their students that even though they’ve been their learning guide in class, ultimately, their accomplishments are their own as they’re the ones doing the hard work.
This story takes place on the outskirts of Moscow where a teacher named named Sergei Volcov had been teaching English to his students for more than 20 years. A young girl named Nadia had been in Mr. Volcov’s class for two years after she moved to the area.
Nadia was a somewhat shy and reserved 8-year-old who had a learning disability. She needed a good teacher with the utmost patience to step in and help her. Unfortunately, that’s not what this young girl experienced while in Mr. Volcov’s classroom.
The children who took Mr. Volcov’s English and Literature class dreaded seeing him step in the door each day as it was inevitable that someone would end up in tears due to his harsh teaching methods.
Even though it was illegal, Mr. Volcov would record every class he taught as he told his students that he wanted to listen back and see where he made mistakes. Even though his recordings made most of his students feel uneasy, they simply did what they were told for fear that Mr. Volcov would come down on them if they didn’t.

One day, Nadia was called to the front of the class for an English lesson with Mr. Volcov and when she didn’t immediately understand what he was trying to tell her, he repeatedly shouted in her face. This kind of aggressive behavior towards young Nadia went on for several more lessons until she simply couldn’t take it anymore.
