Maybe the little chuckle you let out as you're sneaking a snack, right? Totally opposite. The Snickers bar was originally named after a horse. Yup, you heard right!
According to Mars, the owner of Snickers, “The very first SNICKERS Bar, named after the family horse, was manufactured in Chicago, US, and sold for five cents. Frank C. and Ethel V. Mars’ Milky Way Farm in Tennessee was well known for producing Thoroughbred racing champions, including the 1940 Kentucky Derby Winner, Gallahadion.”
The Mars family still breeds thoroughbred horses and also has an equestrian sponsorship across multiple disciplines. Mars is also actually a pet food manufacturer and owns brands like Pedigree and Whiskas.

According to the facts, Snickers the animal was a winning racehorse. He passed away less than a month before the launch of the bar in 1930, which is why the family named the candy bar after him.
