Cancer is a horrible disease that impacts 41% of males in the US and 39% of females. Olivia Munn never wanted to be one of these statistics. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023 and shared the information with the public in March 2024.
Olivia’s treatment included a double mastectomy, hysterectomy, and oophorectomy. Before the latter two procedures she did an egg retrieval in order to have another baby with her partner John Mulaney. Olivia and John are typically private people but wanted to be open about this for two reasons. One was to help others and bring awareness. The other was to show their son how hard she fought to be here in case treatment wasn’t successful. She opened up about this on Good Morning America on May 16, 2024.
Olivia’s diagnosis came as a shock. "You never know what's going on in someone's life," she reminded the public. "Privately, people are battling things that you'd never know." The first thing she thought about when getting her diagnosis was her son.
Olivia got emotional when talking about her baby. "If I didn't make it, I wanted my son when he got older to know that I fought to be here," she explained through tears. "That I tried my best."

Olivia wants to have another child. "Right after the mastectomy, I went through a round of egg retrieval and that's a scary process because I have a cancer that feeds off of hormones, so I knew that there was a risk," she explained. "Our doctor said, 'Look, we're gonna get [an embryo] for you and then we're gonna call it.' And then our doctor called and he said, 'Hey, so we got the results back. It's two healthy embryos.' And I, I mean, just started bawling crying. Both of us."
Olivia is grateful that having another baby is a possibility. She is optimistic and hopeful. "We just really hope it works out for us to be able to have another baby,” she continued. “We just want one more. I'm not gonna ask for too much more in this life, I promise. I just want one more baby." Family is the most important thing to her.
